"Hey, Joe," Sheppard grinned at the pilot entering the bar. "C'mon over, let me get you a beer."
"Nah, no beer, man - just a coke. I'm supposed to play taxi later on."
"Sure, man." Sheppard ordered the drink for his friend. After the waiter had brought the coke, he smiled at his colleague and said, "So, how come you get to play taxi and not me?"
"Well...," Joe smiled back conspiciously. "You heard that rumour about the secret outpost?"
Sheppard nodded. "Like the rest of the pilots here."
"I've been flying geeks back and fro for a while. I've never been inside there, got no clearance, but it does look cool, just by judging what kinda stuff goes in there."
"Really?" Sheppard smiled at him. "What kinda stuff does go in there?"
"Oh, computers and stuff." Joe looked at his watch. "Damn, I gotta go." He rose from the barchair. "Thanks for the coke, man."
"You're welcome," Sheppard smiled. "See ya."
Watching his friend leave, Sheppard wondered if this explained the stranger he'd seen at the post office at McMurdo last weekend, complaining loudly about the lack of capability to deliver an important piece of computer hardware intact.
